745I Turbo head gasket

Head gasket came out of my coupe is just over 2mm thick & is made of 5 layers of metallic material. Engine block is 3.5 with 745i turbo pustons & turbo set up. Does any one know what kind of head gasket this is & where I can find one. It seems to be in good shape & a BMW mechanic told me I can reuse it but others tell me to replace it.

1) if you have a turbo setup....is it a safe guess that is a turbo head gasket?
2) install a new head gasket.... do NOT "re-use" (wtf?!?!?)
3) you can get a 745 gasket almost anywhere, they're about 60 bucks right now from W&N, but if you have a complete setup you probably want to get a full gasket set
4) I would LOVE to see how the turbo is mounted in your coupe!
 
Thanks. WN 745 gasket is 1.7mm & not the same as mine with 5 layers of sandwiched metallic material. If I can not find the same gasket I will use the 745gasket. I will post pictures of the turbo set up.
 
Other options: "M-sport" (did you check that thick one out that W&N markets?)
"Cutting Ring" (some of my turbo head gasket sets have this, others do not)

But seriously, if you are running an M102 or M106 turbo setup, almost any factory gasket s/b fine, the boost on them is pretty minimal
 
It is a Cometic head gasket which is reusable. Do not waste time or money getting the block or head ringed. If you use the stock locating studs in the block, then torque at 40 ft/lb first stage, 54 ft/lb second stage and 74 ft/lb last stage. Do not use the BS 35° twice BMW recommendation. My experience with this is that there is no consistency in head bolt torque and guaranteed failure down the road.

The Cometic head gasket is designed to work with all high compression applications flawlessly.

No.

The M102 engine does not produce minimal boost. The M102 was a seriously flawed design running 7.0:1 compression and 10 PSI boost with a fuel cut out switch to limit boost. It ran at knock inducing fuel ratios and nearly all of these engines failed. Bosch corrected the design with the M106, while still selling the last of the M102 motors. The M106 runs a usable 8.0:1 compression with 6 PSI boost and something missing before: Knock control.

Do not use the 745i gasket. it is the same as the other M30 head gaskets. Beside that, you will have a shaved head and need the thickness of the Cometic head gasket you already have.

Let me clear up a few items.
There are nine hollow gas filled rings in the 745i head gasket set.
The English 745i translation manual which I worked on to get published on the internet twenty years ago states specifically NOT to replace any of them unless they are damaged. I have never seen a damaged one unless an idiot tries to pick one out of its groove. (Yes- I'm the idiot.)
Do NOT buy these rings unless they are damaged.

The 745i factory head gasket has the same part number as the factory head gasket on the USA 535i.

There is no such thing as a bmw e23 factory turbo head gasket.

cometic gaskets are reusable.
Im running 21 pounds of boost on a used cometic
Dyno says 385 hp.
Ten years.
 
Hi Guys

Old thread here, but I'm trying my chances. I've recently bought a E23 with the M102 engine. Head is defect and I'm gathering new parts for it.

So my question is to you guys, What Cosmetic gasket should I be ordering? They have to many different gaskets thicknesses... :) I wouldn't mind adding some extra boost, but the car is an Automatic, so gotta be somewhat sensible.

I've sourced a overhauled M102 head with valves and a standard cam. Would you use it, or should I look for something else?

Anything else I should be upgrading or modifying while I'm at it?

Sorry for the newbie question I have absolutely Zero experience with these engines.
