The Chamonix Bat (4355031) will also be for sale at an auction in Monaco. However it's another auction and held by RM auctions 1/5:

http://www.rmauctions.com/FeatureCars.cfm?SaleCode=MC10&CarID=r164

The Chamonix one looks more "correct" with the three fin rear spoiler and no power windows and mirror etc. However the Polaris one (4355044) has a very low mileage (only some 42 000km).

It will be interesting to follow these two auctions, including two late edition Bats + the 328 MM Bügelfalte.

Cheers

Question: Was the Getrag 5-speed in production by 1974, or was it still a motorsports-only item? When did motorsports replace the ZF 5-speed with Getrag?

I think 4355044 looks pretty original and untouched, save for the gearbox, rear wing and driver's seat.
I never saw the car, it is just my impression from the pictures.
If it is not rusty and has so few kilometers - then it is maybe a fantastic opportunity.

Most Bats have lost their original drivers seat - the type with the adjustment wheel on the right side.
The original one looks like this:

The electric mirror is correct for this car (all Bats from 4355037 up).
Power windows are a common extra.

Most Bats started their life without a rear wing, and got one grafted later on.
This is probably what happened to this car.
It is a pity that owners (and more often sellers) always feel obliged to add wings to these cars.
Wings were forbidden in Germany, France and Switzerland.
I do not know for other countries, but I read somewhere they were allowed in Austria.

The Getrag 5 speed race gearbox was homologated for the race CSL on March 1st, 1973.
The road version became available later (1976 ?).

In their catalogs of 1974 or 1975 the "tuners" (Alpina/Schnitzer/GS/....) were still offering only the ZF for roadgoing cars.

IMO, buyer got a smokin deal . . you can't commercially restore a regular CS to this level at that price! Never mind a CSL . . .

Still a buyers market on CS Coupes . . . .

Wow what a surprise it met the low estimate...but AFTER the house fee. If the house fee is the typical 15% at Bonhams, gavel price was 82k euros (~109k USD)

Do we dare discuss how the auction houses have representatives who bid against the paying bid customers to "help" the process along?

Surprised the seller spent ~20k euros freshening the car up prior to the sale?? After that it barely broke 6 figures US! An 80 thousand dollar car with a 29 thousand dollar detail job!~

What a shame in a way that these numbers are public...I wonder how much of the 20k euros spent went to the Mobile Tradition parts enterprise?

'nother thought, didn't SOMEone claim that black L from CA sold for about the same?

I'm not sure why people worry about the ex premium price - the price of the car is the total cost to the buyer!

#4355031 Hans Stuck CSL Batmobile sold today in Monaco for $171,661.I don't think this includes the 12% buyer fees

CSL 1973 - Thanks for the cool link.

Great fun to page through and drool. I think the Stuck CSL was the bargain of the lot.

Sadly, while there are people prepared to buy there will be people determined to create the sale and make the commission on it. Depending on your view point this is part of the "unacceptable face of capitalism" but arguably less unacceptable than a controlled environment ... I don't like it either and share your sentiments (Yannick) but don't see an easy and practical alternative.

I also feel one of the worse side effects is the consequent upward drag on parts prices and specialist work on the premis that the market supports it - it does if we pay and our cars deteriorate if we don't!

What I don't understand is how a car needs an "excellent level" restoration at less than 26,000 Miles. That's a bout 2-3 years of driving. Was the car sitting outside in the element for 25 years? I think not.

The car was restored about 10 years ago. Cost of resto is quoted in DM not Euros and Germany switched to Euros in 2001. I have to assume the receipt shows DM to get such a precise number. If it was done 10 years ago then it had even less than the 26,000 miles mentioned above. The resto cost $24 200. ( at the then appx exchange rate) for a car with less than 26,000 miles!!! Yeah right. Was it totaled, flooded ? Hmmm.

In 1997 it had 41251 KM ( 25600 miles) and 13 years later it had 42499KM ( 26,400 miles). That's 800 miles or 61 miles per year or 1 HOUR per year!!! Come on. For that you need a Getrag???
And look, it even has a radio to make the Hour so much more enjoyable.

Bonhams has forwarned the next owner in it's French write up: "la 'Batmobile' est prête à faire le bonheur d'un nouvel amateur." It translate to: the Batmobile is ready to bring joy to a new amateur.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself but it smells like major BS to me.

Fjord Monaco-based CSL

Speaking about increased CSL prices, just noticed that the Monaco-based fjord city pack CSL (2275374) is out for sale again (mobile.de). Asked price is now 68 000 euro. The same car was out for sale in the beginning of this year and had, by that time, a price tag of 47 000 euro...

Cheers
