A bit optimistic?

To the thoughtful replies of Dan and Len, I might add this:It can only be original once.

Now, having said that, a carefully done engine/transmission swap could be reversed if you keep the original parts. I guess there are so few unaltered coupes, it seems worthwhile to keep it that way and as you suggest, find another to modify. Just my $.02. Good motoring regardless of your choice!

Am I completely destroying the low-mileage value of this coupe by stripping it of its original drivetrain and upgrading it? Rest assured, the drivetrain upgrade would be done by professional shop.

YES! Leave it alone. If your coupe is indeed as original as you state you would be harming the value by swapping the drive-train. Give it a sympathetic resto and enjoy!

My ultimate question to those of you interested in putting values to these coupes is... assuming it does not have any rust issues, what is this coupe worth today and am I better off finding a high mileage, rust free coupe to upgrade the drive train?
I can tell you're new.
It's worth whatever someone will pay for it. But here ya go anyway:

And to my thoughtful post (which seems to be grudgingly dittoed) I would like to add that, there are fewer and fewer ALL original rust free coupes. I am sure you will see greater appreciation in the future if you keep it ALL original. The minimal amount of HP you would add by swapping engines would be more than offset by it's potential devaluation.

What to do...

Hey Pete, To get the proper exposure to your question, first thing to do is start a new thread. Your on the tail of a thread that may have turned some folks off. I'll gather my thoughts until then. Its a valid issue, considering the condition of your coupe. Dave V. in NC
