A/C intermediate piece

can anyone explain to me why the "intermediate piece" as shown on Real OEM has the round duct openings/outlets (just like the E3) , but as we know there are no A/C outlets to run ducting to on an E9... interestingly however the part number for the intermediate piece is certainly different for the e3 and e9?
