A/C vents

Well this has been helpful. '69 2800CS if you are happy with a/c performance in your area, I expect the same where I am. Really hot days are rare, (though this summer we had more than usual) and no humidity. Yesterday, I drove to the Gathering of the Heritage in Seattle for a Concours, met Sven and others for the first time. On that drive from Vancouver BC to the site, I began to wonder if I am just experiencing "heat soak" and perhaps I just incorporate that heater bypass or shutoff solution? Plus maybe replace heater flap foam?? Mike

It was good to meet you yesterday. I was the guy who was telling you about the belt trim near the end of the day.

My advice regarding the "while you are in there" question is to definitely have the heater core checked/refreshed before putting it back in. I had mine done at a local radiator shop and it wasn't very expensive. I also rebuilt the HVAC box using some self-adhesive felt vs. foam. I got most of the information and ideas from Sven's excellent write-up on his web site. If you have ever taken the center console and HVAC box apart you will know that you don't want to do it twice. I think the shop rate for heater core replacement is about 10 hours labor.

I also installed the heater bypass recommended by Rob Seigel. It's a lot of work to do the complete HVAC rebuild (project creep as we discussed yesterday) but my take on it is "do it once, do it right".
 
The heater bypass is a gread mod and all but eliminates heat soak and makes the a/c much more efficient.

Hi Bill, great to meet you yesterday as well, sorry I didn't get your name 'til now. Super event, so lucky rain held off! Thanks for the tips, and Steve, I now feel the heater bypass is my best, first course of action, have already begun.
