I like this concept. I think that to be a proper tribute, the belt line and the roof trim should be straighter and not arched as much. The way they are arched reminds me too much of a 3 series, especially when looking from the side. IMO, straight/horizontal lines are unique characteristics to our E9s and the designer should play with this.
