My coupes manual has a 3 page loose factory brochure about the AC and how it works.
I look and see that the top left lever (mine are not labeled) but on a labeled one is says L-R OFF, AIR, FAN.

The little brochure shows the lever mentioned above in the center position.
If the AC is not on you can feel outside air entering car.

So what I'm getting at is if the lever is all the way to the left "OFF" the system is closed to outside air. So looking at the diagram in the blue manuals it looks like when the lever is in the "AIR" position it is a mix of inside and outside air. Kind of like we have on a more modern car.

Does this make sense?
Agree?

When using a/c all the other vent controls should be off with no air flowing out. If so you have a leak. Only when it is 30 degrees outside and driving on the hiway would you consider having the heat on the floor and fresh air out the vents which is what the vent controls will do, but since I never use them I've forgotten exactly how to do this.

Gary,

You are correct, off closes all fresh air, center allows fresh air and far right adds fan. When AC is turned on a relay will shut off fresh air fan only.
