As part of my attempt to get the lowdown on my csi, I contacted bmw archive last night and this was the response :
" the BMW 3.0 csi rhd VIN 4350181 was manufactured on July 1st , 1974 and delivered on August 30th,1974 to the BMW importer BMW (Australia) in Prahan (Victoria ).The colour was Sienabraun metallic, paint code 009 " ....so far so good ...but wait !....that color is "brown " and the colour of mine is Polaris Neu.

I have owned this car for 27 of its 39 years and I doubt it was ever brown and there does not appear to be any residual evidence of this colour .Also, i know this is a 70's car and fashion changes , but who would've had a brown car with navy blue velour interior !?....apologies if anyone has this paint / trim combination

So ,I guess I'm asking if BMW is correct /infallible and that my CSI is a closet poo colour ?...not that there's anything wrong with that!
cheers, Simon

Well, you could get back into contact with them, suggest there is no evidence of the car ever being sienabraun, but what's the likely outcome, and what's it worth? I see following possible responses:

1. No sir, from our records the response appears to be correct. We have no control over the vehicle color once it is delivered to the owner. It may have been repainted prior to your ownership.

2. Entshuldigen sie mir bitte, Polaris Neu is correct, we regret the error.

3. ...?

Poo colour no more

Chris/ Honolulu, it apears that the Pope indeed is the infallible one. Follow up has indicated human error . For the record...."manufactured on March 12, 1974 and delivered April 22nd 1974 . Original colour wasPolaris metallic , paint code 060 "

In hindsight, maybe the brown color might have complemented the rust ?!

cheers , Simon

Hi Aussiecsi,

Close to the left door hinges, there is normally the "Karmann color code plate". It is stamped with the color code (e.g. 60 for Polaris). Sometimes, the color code is also written, on the chassis and with a pen, behind the right rear seat.

Could be interesting to check out these two places.

Cheers

As a last resort remove the Karman plate & the original colour will be below. I think it is quite a rare colour. Maybe for a reason.....

hmmmm I don't think the infallibility extends to the automotive....
Infallibility is a fallacy.

Actually I was reflecting today that infallibility is only possible in the absence of a spouse pointing out you are wrong. My wife agreed with that.
