Alpina 14 inch wheels

Agreed. Many factors. No only exposure to UV there is air pollution and ultimately heat cycles.

Little used and stored indoors??? 5 year rule would seem much too soon. Getting toward 10? Yep time to pause.

I have a set of 15 year old Michelin Xs I took of my Triumph. Were disintegrating before my eyes. Black stuff all over the side of car under hard driving. Scary. Replaced with Vredesteins. But still have them in case I ever enter that concours that will never happen!

Coker is a source. Universal Tire. Google search will show rest.

The tires I purchased for the Triumph were 165/15s. The tread design and sidewalls are very similar to the Michelin X.

When you jump to a 205/14 the tread design and sidewalls apparently change. They are then similar to the XWX.

I have not personally purchased the 205 / 14 Vredesteins. My reference is the images posted on these sites. Others on the forum have purchased these tires and may be able to confirm this is the case. If correct this is good news as the two are visually very different.

IMO they are very good tires. Even to the extent when I had my 2002, in the early 1980s Pirelli discontinued the CN36 as their high performance tire for the P7. The 13" taller profile tire disappeared. Vredestein made a CN36 equivalent which was excellent. I ran them for years.

Back in the day I nearly went off the Causeway bridge here when a dry rotted tire blew on my '72 Mustang convertible. Totaled it and the yellow paint marks on the guard rails remained for years as a reminder. As a result I never drive on tires more than a few years old.

That reminds me, when I had just bought my first coupe I of course had to max it out on the motorway to see how it behaved on the way home. Since I bought it in Germany I could do it legally and drive quite far at 200kph. Some weeks later I changed my tires as they were a little worn and the guy in the shop remarked they looked good for being 20 years old.

Lucky to be alive?
