Hello all!
I finally got my 74 CSi.

I would like to upgrade to the 15 inch OZ Alpina wheels.
What tires and sizes do you all recommend?
Where can I get a reliable set of wheels?
thanks much
John

Hi John -- Nice Choice, but rare as hens teeth. Stevehose is the only person I know who has a set of those; he got them used off this forum years ago.

I was looking for these for about a year, but ended up with a set of 15" Weds.

Good luck with your search.

I was also considering the Coupe King staggered set of 16 inch Alpinas.
What tires should I get for those?
John

OK, I got the staggered 16 inch set from Coupe King.
Now what I need are tires.
Any recommendations?
thanks

Ever since I got mine a few years ago I have not seen another set come up for sale and I've had an ebay search going since then. I run Michelin 215/60R15 tires but I think they are a little wide in front so my next set will likely be 205/65R15 or 205/60R15. Maybe try a WTB on this and the other vintage bmw forums that have similar era wheels. (mye28, bigcoupe, et al.)

For the CK wheels, 205/55-16 front, 225/50-16 rear, get the Michelins. Search will give many hits on this topic.

jww426,

50 and 55 are not the sidewall thickness, but the aspect ratio of the height to the width of the tire. Those aspect ratios for 205 and 225 width tires result in essentially the same circumference for the two tires.

Wrong bolt pattern, common for 320i. For e9 the 15" is easier to get tires than 14." I prefer <16" as I think 16" is too much rim and not enough tire. Mine were made in Italy fwiw. I think the company still makes wheels.

What is the correct bolt pattern?

I am going to put the Michelin Pilot Sport AS3 on my coupe's 16 inch Alpinas (Stock sizing). This has proven to be the best tire I have put on a car in a long while. (Running them on my Turbo Forester with STI suspension mods). Previously had BFG Sport Comp 2's on it and didn't like those.
The steering on the Michelin AS3 is very sharp , ride excellent, and the grip is basically the equivalent to a summer tire. I am done with summer tires on my daily driver, as I really don't like the cold and wet weather performance in October and April. Hope to be driving the Coupe in all but winter.

I have Yokohama size 205/55R16 on front and rear on 16" Alpina rims, however I have noticed some slight rubbing caused by the front inner guards (slight slicing into the rubber from stainless steel wheel flairs). I asked the tyre company what the issue is. They said I need to go to a body shop and get the underside of guards rolled inwards slightly so the tyres don't rub. This seems extreme to me. They also said if the tyre hits the silver flairs too hard it could rip them off the body. Anyone have such an issue before re rubbing tyres using 16" rims? Do I really need to get the front inner guards metal rolled inwards? I am thinking 16" might not be the best rims to run on an E9? (and if I use lower profile tyres it wont look nice). What do to?

If you are having issues have your fenders rolled by a competent body shop, no big deal if done correctly. If not it could rip your trim off or worse bend the lip back outward (amhik)
