The Bosch red coil part #12131357240, also referred as 00013, now made in Brazil to mixed reviews - is there a quality German made equivalent high output coil from say Beru? Or another manufacturer in Japan or USA of good quality? Or is the Bosch red the only game in town for the high output version?

steve
my case is the blue bosch one, i do not remember the numbers now
i have used BREMI, BERU, and even a new BOSCH replacement, but one year ago a friend found an original made in germany blue bosch coil, and that is what i have now
you can use BERU without problems, in absence of other alternative that would be my choice
if you want me to track an original red bosch, just tell me, it will probably take some time, thoug

Steve,

if you go w/ the deQ route, i'll send you my NOS blue coil to use. its just sitting on the shelf.

DeQ: If you can find me an original German red that would be cool, there's on in the phillipines on Samba but I don't want to send money there just yet.

Scott: Thanks for the offer, if I can't get a red one I'll hit you up, I already have the ballast resistor on the way so I'd like to keep what I have now for spares.

I've always read that the red is the one with most output, and that the blue has the built in resistor?

The Bosch Blue coil is rated at 18KV or a ratio of 150:1 It will deliver a maximum voltage of 18,000 when fully cycled up. This is advantageous at low RPM where a higher electrical potential is needed to jump the spark gap in a dense cylinder mixture. At high RPM, even when not fully charged, it delivers a stronger spark than the OEM coil.
For even greater punch, Bosch makes a Red coil. It is rated at 25KV and has a ratio of 200:1. Its attributes are pretty much the same as the Blue coil only more so. Lucas also makes a high performance coil which is gold in color. I believe it offers 200:1 windings.

i will ask tomorrow about it
BTW why dont you use the blue coil setup for enhanced power ?
while you think about it i will ask about both possibilities
regards

I had a Pertronix Flame Thrower coil in my 2002 for several years.

Just make sure you get the right resistance...

I have not had to mess with the ignition in my Coupe, yet.... ;)
