On the new internally regulated alternator I have there is no connection available for a ground wire since all the studs that run through the alternator have all been cut flush with the alternator back. I wonder if it is feasible to connect the ground wire to one of the screws that holds the internal regulator onto the alternator.

Thank you for the quick response. I didn't know that and have seen many '02s with discharged batteries that had no ground wire so I am overly caustious I guess. At the Vintage a couple of weeks ago, I actually helped an '02 owner with a new alternator figure out that he had not reconnected the ground wire when he replaced the alternator.

Strangely enough, when I attached a grounded braided strap to the top screw on the internal regulator the charging voltage was between 16 and 18v! When I removed that ground, the voltage was 14.0v.
