Is the wobble visible when the alternator is out of the car? Usually, when you see a wobble in the car, it is an error in the process of tensioning the belt.

Re HB Chris-- yes, the pulleys are different as well, from what I interpret. The e3 has the same pulley as e9 according to the part numbers. 12311277561

However! Yes, however, I found an alternator which came from 75-76 3.0is, and it appears to have internal regulator. But more importantly, the pulley looks different that the e9 pulley, contrary to the pulley part number which is also 12311277561.

Additionally, the 3.0is alternator also has a different part number, 0-120-489-606, whereas the e9 has part number 0-120-489-609.
See below pictures of alternators and pulleys.
1st 2 pictures are of e9. The last 4 of 75-76 3.0is.

I use a readily available and cheap AC Delco CS-130 105 amp alternator for my E3, no appearance of originality but bolts right in and works like a trained pig.

Hello Mike,

Some questions regarding your alternator change to ac delco cs-130 105.
1. When i did my search on Summit Racing web site, i got 4 pages of alternators for the part you provided. All but 2 alternators had serpentine belts. Attached are the two thst had v belts. Which did you use?

2. What alterarations did you have to make? Did the belt line up properly? Same BMW belt?

3. Did you use your old pulley or did the one that came with the alternator fit?

Thanks

You can get the Autolite 1342-6-7 alternator at Autozone. Finding a right offset CS-130 with a v-belt pulley isn't going to happen as they are all from the serpentine age. I don't recall where I got the pulley as I had several old GM alternators laying around when I did the swap. You can buy these pulleys from Summit or Speedway.
I used a 17411 belt to get the proper tension in the adjustment range.
Here are a couple links to write-ups I did.
