I have an intermittent fault on my 2800CS.The red alt. light reverses its normal operation. Ignition off, light is on. Ignition on, light goes off. Start the car and light stays off.
Had the alternator checked. Charging operation is normal. Changed the regulator as well.
Any ideas??

What have you (or someone else) done to the charging system wiring lately? Mechanics Rule is that the last thing you did is likely related to the current (no? Pun intended) problem

Have you checked over the charging system wiring?

Are you familiar with the charging system wiring?

Yes, the alt. is the original with nan external reg. which I replaced when this fault started.
For the rest, the car has just been restored and I rebuilt the alt. using new bearings. On a test bench ,the alt checked out fine so I left the diode pack as is.
The wiring is just as the factory did it and seems fine. No breaks or dodgy connections.
When the fault started, I had the alt checked again on a tset bench and it passed, but I suppose an intermittent fault in a diode may not show up on a test.
Any other thoughts?

Usually with the ignition off and the light on means the one-way functionality of the diode has been comprimised, allowing current to back feed to the light.
