hi all

a friend of mine has dissasembled the rear diff, and now he is trying to assemble it again after some cleaning and re-greasing

the question is which is the apropirate torque setting for the main pinion

the diff ratio is 3/45 and is of 25% autoblock

your help will be mostly appreciated, he is in a hurry because is in his way to a classic-rallye competition in a couple of weeks:twisted:

regards

remark: detail of question: torque setting of nut number "3" in the attached drawing

Assuming that you are using a new crush sleeve (#7 in the illustration) you tighten the pinion nut (#3 in the illustration) a little at a time until you have a turning resistance of about 25 inch pounds. Remember that this resistance spec is for having the pinion only installed in the diff case. I never attempt to just install a new pinion seal and then get things close, I've just had too much trouble from not really doing it right the first time. Good Luck, Leroy
