My first post. I joined about a month ago and have two E9's, 2800 CS and 3.0 CS. I plan to restore the 2800 and use the 3.0 as a donor car. The 2800 is a 4 speed manual and I plan to use the 3.0 CS engine. I have stripped most of the interior and found the usual rusted floor pans.

I also plan to remove the front fenders and nose, just wondering if it is possible to remove the fenders and cone as one piece?

I will post some photo's tomorrow.

I don't think it would be easier to remove fenders + cone in one piece, not even sure it would be possible.

It took me many hours to get only one fender off my car, can't imagine how difficult it would be to get everything off in one piece, especially without bending or totally destroying them.

Looking forward to see some photos!

I am rather a rookie here myself, but if I had two cars to pick from the one with the least rust would be the keeper.

Also, keep us in mind for the parts you pull off and don't plan to use. Many of us will buy slightly better parts to replaced parts on our cars.

Two E9s Sydney

I do not believe it is possible, to remove the front sheet metal as an assembly, its a lot of work to remove those pieces, and you will do considerable damage to the welded flange on the sheet metal on removal, have a very good reason to do it.
I have just finished replacing the floors, sills , and lower front guards , [last week]on my 74 cs, while driving my ,hard to start in the cold weather 73cs.
Good luck with your car, I bought all my replacement panels out of Germany, good quality sills and lower front guards, unfortunatly the floor panels were a flat piece of metal with the pressing in it , which after locating the pressing adjacent to the frame rail, you the have to trim the replacement section where it buts up to the inner sill, which then leave,s you with the job of making a section of floor over to and up the side of the tunnel , on the drivers side floor it gets a bit complicated, perhaps another source for floors?.
Good luck.

Hi Deesta,

Are they the cars that Bill was selling? I saw a vid on Youtube of someone removing CS fenders: vid is titled "Removing RH Fender on a '71 BMW 3.0 cs e9"

I have two CS coupes one of which is undergoing a complete resto / mod. I'm on the Gold Coast so not far away. If you need to refer to a bare shell I could perhaps arrange for you to see mine at the body shop where you will see how they have repaired the floors with new panels, also the extra welding I've done to strengthen the shell.
Now that there are a few local CSs we should all get together and form a group to assist each other.

Thanks, since my last post I have removed the fenders on both cars and discovered the white one has rust in the channels where the fenders sit. So back to the brown car! Only issue with is the sunroof is badly rusted. At this stage I feel like I am restoring two cars!!!I will post some pictures next week

Photos of work so far

Skinned the roof off both cars. The sunroof was beyond repair so we are using the non sunroof to put onto the brown car. It's just sitting on the brown car and we will install it next week.

Rust in the sills etc so have placed my first order with W & N.

Dont want to tell you how to suck eggs.... but it might be a good idea to brace that thing through the door openings having the roof off, it may fold in half!

Yes, agreed, we have braced the roof in place with clamps etc however additional braces are a good suggestion.
