Another rotten peach http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-3-Series-3-0CS-3-0-CS-Unrestored-Original-US-Southern-Atlanta-Delivery-Car-/190529533415?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2c5c71f5e7 About a year ago we saw another Georgia car that was done up just like this --- absolutely no rain gutters on the front fenders in front of the cowl area ! Maybe it’s the same seller or car ? I can’t remember. He says the car isn’t restored but it’s obvious that the seat covers are all redone, there is no rust on the exhaust manifolds and the AC lines are off the car and wiring isn’t hooked up. But whopee, the valve cover is highly polished. I have to agree with the seller, the car isn't restored, just doctored up to look good --- buyer beware. ~ John Buchtenkirch

guys, if anybody is interested ... i would be happy to go look at it and give you a detailed assessment.

Looking at the color sticker it looks to me like it says Polaris not Chamonix, and the wiper motor/assembly has been sprayed all black, and is that the correct location for the orange "original BMW tiele" sticker? All indicates respray. I think it is the same car as was on a while ago.

That makes the "unrestored" claim a little difficult to believe.

Not to mention the fact that you can’t even buy & install new front fenders on the car --- there is no upper fender skirt to attach them to. Some mutt just ran some sheet metal or fiberglass down from what was left of the fender and sort of blended it with what was left of the skirts. There is no upper skirt there to even attach a fender to. The mutt made absolutely no effort to duplicate the factory skirts or fenders, he just did what was the easiest for him to hopefully fool someone who knows nothing about these cars.

Looking at that mess I can guarantee you that the top of those fenders & fender skirts are all Bondoed up, that is all that Mr. Mutt is capable of, he is certainly no metal worker. It’s guys like this that give the auto body business a bad name, I resent them :evil: & hope he gets sued over misrepresenting this junk. ~ John Buchtenkirch

John, there have been 2 companies that have made the fiberglass bowed flares for the 2002, with front air dams. the first one i forget, but was Korman sold them - the fronts were full fenders. currently, i believe that Ireland is having this style fender made in China out of fiberglass. yes, the rear fenders have to be grafted on ... but don't forget that even the turbo fenders were just bolted onto the existing fender. as a former owner of an e30 m3, i like that look ... and think it looks better on a 2002 than the turbo or alpina box flares ... although the turbo flares were period correct because BMW made them.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying this guy is above board or that his cars are worth the price that he is asking - $33k for a 2002??? my thought is that it is way overpriced. but i may go take a look at them and see + will also find out what they are expecting to get for the coupe and get a real assessment of the car.

well, at least one person on this board has some common sense----look at the car, in person, then make a decision on it worth.

And please get the last two numbers of the VIN (22402xx), he hid the numbers but included a fuzzy pic of the VIN plate.

Let's place some bets on the last two digits of the VIN.
I say it is 19.

has anybody actually talked to this guy? i've sent 3 emails + left 3 voice mails ... no response ... and i'm in the same city!!!

unbelievable

It’s not that unbelievable to me, he probably doesn’t want anyone knowledgeable inspecting the car on the chance it might queer the sale. Let’s face it, anyone familiar with what the skirts look like isn’t going to buy that car for anything near it’s current eBay price. That car needs a customer that loves coupes but doesn’t know too much about them. ~ John Buchtenkirch

P.S. I'm thinking the coupe we saw last year with the same skirt problem was tan :confused:

I talked to him and his Father last week! They have no idea about the car...

I talked to the seller who admitted he knew nothing about the car because his father gave him the car. Then I received more photos from under the car and I spoke to the father who knew very little other then the car had a partial floor pan replaced.

I asked about the Polaris silver sticker and told them the seats were recovered (wrong) and they had no idea...

The father also had no clue about the sons asking price.

Am I surprised even the slightest bit  , not really. The car has absolute butchered rust repairs. The seller insinuates it’s an un-restored original car and now everyone is dumbing up :confused: on the car’s history. ~ John Buchtenkirch

i am pretty sure this is the car i looked at over 10 years ago ... and passed on it because it had some minor visible rust then. if its the same car, the owner had died and his widow was selling it.

OUCH, the so called unrestored survivor car has hit 19K  and still hasn’t hit the reserve price. Maybe the bidders will be lucky & not make reserve. Also note the rear bumper guards and aluminum trim around the windshield are missing --- probably blew off when turning a 15.9 quarter mile ET :roll::roll:. ~ John Buchtenkirch

Granted that the red leather against white paint is very pretty, and the engine compartment shows well, but it is absolutely astounding to me that this car is bid up to $19K without a single photo of the underside of the car -- without any evidence OR EVEN CLAIM that the car is rust-free. The words "rust" and "rot" do not even appear in the ad. He doesn't even claim that the 11k mileage is original. Someone could pay big bucks to buy this car sight-unseen, be horribly surprised, and have no recourse because the car was "as advertised."

I blame it on “Spring fever”, the warm weather hits and a man’s blood heats up and he has visions of cruising around in that cool sports car, because of it he makes poor decisions. Hey, it’s happened to me and the seller has picked the perfect time of the year for it. Now up to 20K and still counting. ~ John Buchtenkirch
