actually has triples and recaro seats ... sure its rough, has some visible surface rust ... but for under 20k. i haven't looked at all the pics, but a long term NY car, you know there is more than surface rust.

I was thinking about bidding on it, but - luckily for my marriage - I had a meeting with a customer when the auction was ending.

I agree, somebody got a hell of deal!

Indeed, that was a steal. I'm sure the low compression scared off a lot of buyers, but refreshing the engine isn't that big a deal. I'm still looking for a slicktop but that was a realllllly low sale price.

no doubt, it was a great price. it would provide a great starting point for a good run through and pass on to a new coupe owner. at that price you can suffer through some rust issues as long as they aren't major. having a set of triples and recaros gives a great starting point - even if you dropped in a b35 with injection, you have something really good to cleanup and sell. oh, while i really like nachtblau ... atlantik is a great non-metallic color

Wow… nice deal.

As I have a NY car… I can tell you exactly how much rust there may be… I’ll get around to posting pictures one of these days.

this car spent its early life in NYC and probably lived a relatively sheltered life. it was owned by James Morel in the 80's, no idea when he bought it, but i think he still owned it in 1990. the panels around the spare tire well look a little suspect as does the ends of the rockers / floors ... but i have seen a whole lot worse. Todd, this car is only 51 numbers before yours and 5 numbers before @gwittman baikal coupe. it is 10 cars after @lip277 baikal coupe.

Yeah - I noticed that VIN as well (being very near mine).
Brings home the fact that - in the grand scheme of things (automotive wise) - the were not that many of these cars made.

It's a lot of car for that money. I didn't look at it before, but the rust seems to be quite light...for 16k.

Trunk area actually has some an area where the rust seems to be totally absent. This must say something about the rest of the car as well. It's the floor corner just behind the left rear wheel: zero rust:

Then again, the floor looks to have been patched, and even has a reinforcement brace welded under it. But the rust prevention measure after that fix weren't really effective: I think i spot an overlap weld with rust in between. Not very nice, but it will not fall apart likely.

Also the front wheel well has some interesting structure added, likely in an effort to keep the water out.

It looks like a decent job done, given that there is no evidence of any rust crawling out on the fenders (outside lower A-pillar / under hood)

I did notice the VIN.

Although those floors are not of original ilk… they are fairly well done. Getting the new panels to line up with old is a feat in itself. Or in my case with the crappy front pans I bought… impossible.
