Hi,

I was wondering if the Australian delivered car owners can let me know what brand radio/stereo their car ORIGINALLY came with. The only original radio I have seen was a Mitsubishi Electric in a 1972 CS from Adelaide. I understand most non Australian cars came with Blaupunkt and Becker, but I would be surprised if Australian dealers were fitting these brand radios. Thanks for your help.

G'Day,

I believe that air con and radios on Aust Delivered cars were dealer fitment and hence each Dealer fitted what they considered appropriate -read cost effective - to them.
My 1974 CS was fitted with a Pioneer KE-4000 Radio/cassette player and I was told by the previous (20 year) owner that it was the original fitted.

regards

My '74 had a dealer (?)fitted National Panasonic radio/cassette ....my car has been off the road that long the player still had the relatively "new" Neville Brothers cassette album featuring their hit "Yellow Moon " when I ditched it last year :)

Yeah I have an aircon car and I want to fit a period correct radio but I want it to be in line with other Oz delivered cars. Previous owner took the stereo out and must have replaced it with a modern one then took the modern one out and left it empty when I got it. The easy option is to get the Blaupunkt/Becker option but when I saw the Mitsubishi 8 track player in the 72 model I thought I would ask around and see what everyone else had. I had a feeling it was dealer fitted but My logic was that BMW Australia head office may have had a deal in place to supply dealers using one supplier.

Pioneer does sound good though. Sounds like you got a good one for that period. I'm starting to see a pattern, Mitsubishi, Pioneer.....japanese

For what it is worth my 1971 Aust Delivered 2800CS had a Becker. I haven't seen it for a while, if I still have it.

Interesting, if you have it I may be interested in buying it if it is in good condition.

Heck if you throw in the car as well I'll give you a good price
