I recently managed to get a getrag 265/6 gearbox pulled from a 85' 735i to kick start my 5 speed conversion.
Stamping number on the box is 262.0.0510.90, however as this is a post 82 vehicle, the transmission had the speedometer input shaft sealed as it uses the sensor from rear diff

I have managed to get a NOS speedometer drive and adapter along with the shaft seal and o ring. Somehow I can only upload a single photo, hence I uploaded these here: http://s1168.photobucket.com/user/keat_eric/library/Speedometer drive Getrag 265 OD

Am I correct that I will be needing a speedo cable specifically for an automatic E9 due to the longer length? If so can anyone help me with the part number? I cannot find it on realoem.

Will any other speedo cable fit?

yes,

you need the e9 automatic cable. no idea if anything else works ... but i know this one does and the 4 speed manual does not. if anybody needs a 4 speed - speedo cable i have a brand new one that doesn't fit on my 5 speed.

I finished my 5-speed conversion and used the speedometer cable from the 4-speed without any problem.

I as well did the swap a couple of years ago. 1970 2800CS 4-speed and used the original speedo cable- works fine.

Great to know that the manual cable works fine. The predicament I have is the previous owner did a conversion from manual to auto... and badly done. It's an auto box without speedo drive

I'm now stuck without a cable and clutch pedal and I need to get this rectified

Anyone out there who has a clutch pedal for a 72 for sale? Am told that other pedal do not fit or line up.
