Automatic to 5 speed question

What driveshaft are you using? The AT shaft fits a 5-speed with slight lengthening (3/4"?) which per my conversation with Carl Nelson (who oughta know, I believe) is just fine.

Apologies for the very long delay in responding. I have been reinstalling the wiring loom (and I am still going with it)!

Anyway the longer output flange sounds like a good suggestion. Would it be long enough to make up the short fall. I need to make up about 35 mm (as stated earlier, the spline is 110 mm long and only goes in about 35 mm so another 35 mm would take it up to 70 mm leaving a gap of 40 mm, is this too much)?

Also is it easy to remove the old flange?
I will go to the wreckers / bone yard. Do I just ask for the following part number http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref....23211228038 or is there a specific BMW model.

If all this proves to be difficult I assume I just get the drive shaft lengthened about 35 to 45 mm.

Thanks guys.

Don't forget, you'll probably be getting a later model 265 trans w/electronic speedo.

so budget $100 for a 265 speedo gear (and a rear seal), and $50-100 for the speedo drive assembly, which can be had from a 262 four-speed.
