How do I separate the "T" handle from the shifter base? I want to remove the center console for refinishing

Last I looked, you just unscrew it. Mind the inner bits that may come out with the handle. Pretty intuitive.

I have tried multiple Allen wrenches and no luck so far

I see a small black screw which won't move, but somehow I don't think this is all that is needed. Last step in getting the entire center console removed.
