I've just about finished installing b35 head (89 e32 donor) on m90 block and have run into a snag with the thermostat housing/cover and the motronic upper timing case cover getting in each others way. Even though the REAL OEM shows these parts should coexist and are on every m30 variant from e9 to e32, the pipe/hose are not going to make it under the timing cover.

I'm using the rad configuration (an aluminum copy) common to the e9 so the thermostat connects to the lower right corner. Is the e32 rad different?

Thanks

On an e9 car using a e9 radiator and converted to a b35 head with a Motronic distributor...
You must use the 1982 only e24 hose.

01 Hose 1 09/1981 09/1982 11531268750

bmw part only....

Thanks Don, I was hoping you were around to see this. May still need to do something with the thermo cover to clear the timing cover?

In October 1985 the factory upgraded the entire cooling system for the big sixes.
Also upgraded the AC system.
Big/major improvements.
Go with the smaller pulley, the spin on fan clutch
[11521723027U] , the "A" housing [11531710959 ] with the later t-stat
[11531713040] and the later cover [11531268650]
use a fan shroud [1 115 083], throw out the aux fan and replace with later design and condenser.

b35 cooling

I think the 11531268650 cover will solve the alignment issue along with the 11531268750 hose.

I have a 16" pusher fan controlled by the ECU and no A/C (it's Canada, eh?) so I'm good with the rest. Always wondered if I could adapt a shroud.

Thanks again Don - much appreciated.

Sfdon,

There doesn't seem to be a paper gasket between the thermstat housing and the cover - is that correct?

So the O ring is supposed to make this water tight ??!
