Just to let you all no that they finally let me out of hospital. What a awful few weeks its been for my family, what looked like being a normal week end went completely wrong. It all started on the Friday......

I spent Friday putting up new ceilings in the house, pretty hard work but well used to it, I`m 43 and pretty fit or so I thought. I woke up early Saturday looking forward to taking the family to the football match, decided to do a few hours building before we went out. 10 mins into it my arm ached that much I couldn't stand the pain followed by tooth ache in one side of my mouth. Decided to drive to the doctors and when we got there they were closed. My wife decided to dial 999 for an ambulance while I sat quietly in the doctors car park.
The ambulance arrived I felt better , started to say I was sorry for calling them and wasting there time and I got a real sharp pain in the chest, heart attack number 1. They got me wired to all the machines and my heart decided to go in arrest and it took a bit to long to restart it. I came round with some guy pumping my chest ( he broke 2 ribs.. but saved my life). They got me to the hospital and I crashed again after my heart went in to VF ( i think thats what its called) when all the valves in the heart just open and close in random order, they then had to shock me with the electric pads and lucky for me it worked and my heart regained a steady beat.
According to the doctors i am very lucky to be alive as only 5% of people survive and out of the 5% only 60% make it past the next 24 hours. My chances were that slim they left me hard wired to the cardiac shock machine for 48 hours.
The worst of it is it doubtful I will ever be able to drive again due to complications but I`m just glad to be alive. going to have to find some new hobbies that dont involve cars when I`m up and about again in around 3 - 4 months time.

Marc-

I wish you the best towards full recovery. You could become like some of us and just WORK on your car for years. You don't have to DRIVE it.

I am waging war on Fe2 O3 !!! And now, I am almost as good a welder as I am a grinder.

Best of luck!!!

You dodged a serious bullet.
Your left arm and face were the most likely pain locations. VF is "ventricular Fibrilation". The ventricles are the main pumping part of the heart and in FIB they move nothing, just quiver in place.
Yes, you are lucky to be alive. 5 minutes either way and that wouldn't be the outcome.
Glad to hear you are doing better.
A heart attack, in the US, doesn't preclude you from driving. But your doc will have to sign you off to get your license back.
You are on overtime, enjoy everyday.
Pay attention to your body and always take your meds.

Glad you're back! This group needs all the help it can get and like they say, you don't have to drive your coupe. Actually you don't even have to work on it. It is sufficient at times just to think about it. :D

Darn close call and glad you're ok. As Steve said, live everyday to it's fullest. As for driving, there is always Play Station 3 with Grand Turisimo 4 (PS 3 & GT 4) which is more exciting than driving a C road with a lorry coming the other way.

Marc,
I am gald to hear your on the road to recovery and wish you and your family well.
If you miss the hankering of scrap well you can always get involved in motorsport. the MSA and folk who organise events are always looking for Marshals, timekeepers and scrutineers, you can get to watch some exotic scrap in the hands of idiots for free!

Take Care

Marc, glad to hear you were in that 5% and overcame the odds! We are fragile creatures. All the best for a speedy recovery.
