Right -- so Chris has the starter covered. As to the wire, I used the original BMW part. They were available last fall and relatively inexpensive.

The original battery cables are NLA; which original BMW cable did you use? e21 or e24? Part #? Thanks!
 
I don’t remember but one of them also has a cable from starter back to alternator too, I just cut that cable off.
 
A few progress shots: Took about 6-8 hours to carefully remove all six fused manifold gaskets from head! Intake manifolds before/after sand and vapor blasting. (Looking into best finish to use for the clean aluminum?) Throttle linkage parts in acid bath prior to tumbling..
