BaT - E39 M5-Based, Custom-Bodied E9 CS by MKO

I am enjoying the comments offered here. Only this Forum could provide this level of esoteric analysis. Pretty cool, actually. I watched the videos of driving this creation and they took me back to 1991, when I bought a new an Alfa Romeo 164. Incredible machine, designed to cruise. I recall a short commute along any freeway was effortless and I would hit 170 km/hr in no time. Stable and quiet as could be. Had to watch that. Next year, drove Vancouver to Santa Barbara, carefully planned each leg of trip, arrived everywhere well ahead of schedule, saved a whole day. Not an advertisement for an Alfa, just an appreciation of a lovely, quiet Euro car that can cruise effortlessly at these speeds. I know my Coupe has it in there, but I see the strength of this build and I would get out of its way. ;)

i know how much we ALL love the wheels on this car ... and i just saw that a set was just listed on BaT ... so i thought i would let everybody know so we can all start a bidding war on them (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

The angled rear bumpers jumped out at me immediately because it's the kind of thing that drives me crazy. Drives me crazy both from a visual perspective and in a "you spent $250k and you couldn't line up the bumpers?" way. I'm not trying to take away anything from the workmanship, but it's a real puzzler. Perhaps there was a technical/physical reason that prevented them from leveling the bumpers? Or, perhaps like many of my projects, they began the build very meticulously and by the end just wanted to be finished (or run out of money) and rushed it.

One small note on @ScottAndrews very helpful visual analyses: the image plane for the Malaga car is very parallel with the side of the car and the camera is lens is centered on the car, while the image plane for the Polaris one appears to be somewhat angled and the picture was taken with the lens slightly forward of center. I expect this contributes to the trapezoid effect that @e9Leveque noted. The picture that @paul cain posted with the alternative wheels is much more parallel and centered. To my eyes the trapezoid effect is greatly reduced in this pic.

Not only do I not like those wheels on this car, I never liked them on the Z8 either. I guess they are my "Green Eggs and Ham," wheels.

I would not like them on an E24.
I would not like them on an E31.
I would not even like them on an F85.
I do not like them Sam-I-am.

I'm guessing the car would be the tiniest bit under-tired with these wheels, but I think these would be just the ticket.

Seriously, only $200 right now. Somebody needs to buy them. Any Australian E9ers in the market for another set of wheels?

Initially, the car had different wheels installed; not sure if the Oberhausers still installed them or if the current owner did:

MUCH nicer with the OE E39 M5 wheels. But would be even nicer if there was a bit smaller version (allowing for more tire sidewall) - at least for my taste.

Its the interior of that car that's so bad. Who wants that dash in an E9? It's like a supermodel who only looks great from one side.

Dude your Sam-I-Am wheel poem killed me.. thanks to @Clubsport_CSi for posting the original photos of the E39/E9.

Looks like the rear bumper has been crooked since the very beginning... that rear quarter panel shot is... agh.. How did the shop fail to catch that? How did that slip past the editor prior to publication?
