BaT Taiga CSL auction

That's one great looking coupe. Did the ad say the doors were steel? If not, perhaps the bubbling is electrolysis from the AL door skin reacting with the steel frame. Original lightweight CSL doors also have AL hinges; I don't think anyone reproduces those (yet).

Tyler,

The right door of my '74 is Aluminum. The car had been used as a Rally Car in the early 80's, and that door was damaged. When the next owner had the car restored, he put on a new Aluminum door rather than a steel one (weight savings !! - ha). Anyway, the car was painted after the restoration in 1989, and not been touched since. There is no sign of any bubbling any place on that door, (nor on the left steel door).

Tyler, there is person in Germany that sells E9 parts and also the Alu door hinges/ brand new (new production). You can see them on German eBay. I can send you or anyone interested, the link. Not cheap but available.

Hi guys, it's me, the seller, Dave. I think all the questions are answered if you go through my comments. The ad is BaT's writing. It's the way they work and they didn't get it all right. I caught most of the errors, but the "original" dash was missed. It's definitely a redone dash, with a stitched leather and not the original vinyl. Similarly if the ad says the doors are steel, I still can't find that. They are aluminium and the bubbling is almost certainly due to cross-contamination of steel/Al. A commenter noted that you can't even use the same files and I know that he did - so the bubbling of the paint popped up shortly after the repaint. I should have mentioned the hinges are Al too, along with fuel door, headlight access covers, which no-one mentions or knows about except owners, since none of the literature I read ever mentioned any of those three things, only door, trunk and hood skins. I'm happy to answer questions from this list's members although I'm out of town most of this week and crazy busy so I'll be really slow doing so. I am going to try and not read the BaT comments much this week since I'm getting a little tired of the endless discussion about the "chrome" fender flairs (argh, they're stainless and original). : )

Oh, and one more thing folks? I'm registered here with my name but I don't think the BaT readers need to know that info? I'm OK being identified within the BMW community but I don't think I want to be identified widely in the big wide world of the internet, so please keep that private please? Thanks.
