its at 52.5k now with 1 day to go. that's a lot for a 535i. in the early 90's that car would have sold for 8k. in '93 i bought an '84 533i with a 5 speed with similar mileage for 6.5k. they are wonderful cars.
In my opinion. The E28s are the best BMWs the company ever built, they do everything well with little compromise. That's why it's so difficult to find one with low miles in a 528e, 533i, 535is or M5 and when they are found they command top dollar.
I've had my 1988 M5 since 2017 & it's always an absolute joy to drive.
no question about an e28 m5. love them ... that and the e30 m3. favorite 2 bmw newer than the coupe / 2002. but both are true ///M cars. a 535i is a nice car, but not a 50k+ nice car. now that the e28 m5 has finally jumped in value, you can't find them affordably anymore.
The ‘88, 535i is my daily driver and I drive a lot... put 30,000 miles on it in just over three years. I was fortunate in that it only had 60,000 on the clock when I got it!
to me that's crazy money for what it is. if it was an e28 m5 ... that and more. what i always liked about the e28 533i / 535i / 535is is that it was always an affordable + great car. still a great car, but to me i wouldn't spend that much for a non M car of that age.
It’s always exciting to see top dollar for a great car. Not only in condition but also in design/build. Any one who’s not owned one should consider buying any one of them. I currently have 3. An m5 project, a 535 is race car and a 1988 528e (super eta) . They are all different and all great! Like Andrew, I believe that they are the best bmw ever built.
