Belt line trim aftermarket

Sometimes you are better off having your original trim polished and ceramic coated.
Well yes. Nothing fits as well as a factory part and the curvature on that trim has to be just right - you will probably have to spend some time tweaking replacement trim to get a good fit.

But if your old trim is missing or damaged beyond repair, it's good to know that replacements are available.

good to know optinos exist. I think also W&N had reproductions.

beware that their fastener set is 4 units short: BMW parts books are wrong here, as an e9 has 49 holes along the trimline.

Anyone have any experience with this manufacturer? Based on the work they do with 2002s and e30s that is a bit more prevelant, I am considering giving them a try versus polishing and coating mine. Price is less or equal, maintains a more correct finish, and keep my old trim to sell.

one word of caution on polishing - that can slightly vary the shape of the trim and you might have to have a body guy work on it slightly. mine doesn't fit perfectly after polishing / ceramic coating, but it sure looks good. happy to know that somebody is making a replacement and would like to hear how well it fits.

Has Speedway Metal Polishing stopped offering that service? They did mine (15 years ago) and the cost including shipping was less than $500.

might have changed, but a while back i heard Speedway wasn't polishing anymore - their guy retired. hopefully they found a new guy. i did mine about 7 or 8 years ago and with shipping it was about 700 bucks, but it looks great overall. i guess we need to find some alternate sources to remove the anodic coating, polish and ceramic coat.

They stopped doing the coating I believe. I called them early this year and they told me they no longer did the full service. I did order this set from MVP after doing some more research, so can let everyone know how it turns out. They were very nice and quick with a response to my inquiry, and seem to have a good reputation in the 2002 an e30 communities. Ireland Engineering also resells some of their parts.

Thank @CharlesJ , keen to hear how it fits. I'm planning to 3d print the spacers to protect the paint. Happy to print a set and send them your if you are interested.

YES, please! really curious to know how these work for you, as previous attempts by Walloth & Nesch were (if i remember well) not so great especially the long rear quarter panel parts missed a good fit at the curve above the taillights.

W&N had problems with the fitment of the rear trim pieces. They no longer sell the right rear piece. That's the piece I need to replace due to the corner edge missing.
MVP does not show the address of their office or factory on their website. Does anyone know where they make their products?

Installed a MVP set following a recent full body restoration on my 02. The fit was spot on - quality of material finish can’t be faulted. They are very responsive - I needed (quickly) a timing chain (which they also make/sell) and it was fedex’d to me in Oz from Taiwan in two days.

Send them an email with any questions remembering the time difference - they were happy to exchange multiple emails with me over a $50 part.

Just curious, why not have them reanodized after polishing. It seems there are plenty of shops around that does decorative anodize. I guess the hard part is finding a good shop that does it.
