I want to change the lubricant in my '74 with the 3.8 engine/5 speed OD transmission. What is the best lubricant for good synchronizer function, lubrication, and low transmission noise?

Thanks,

Gary

What gear oil have you been using up till now? (If it ain't broke . . . )

Your transmission was used with E24 and similar models, no? What did the manufacturer recommend? http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27342

Absent any specific recommendations, e.g., ATF versus "GL-4" 90 weight, it is hard to go wrong with Redline MTL 75W80 or Royal Purple Synchromax, which is evidently safe for yellow metals ( https://www.ecstuning.com/b-royal-purple-parts/synchromax-transmission-fluid-1-quart/01512/ ) , but there are many other choices.

50/50 Redline MTL and 80/90w gear oil (the kind ok for bronze bushings) per Carl Nelson. Works great for what you are looking for, I use it in mine.
