Best way to reduce tappet noise?

I use these. In the 15 years I've been driving my E3 I don't recall ever adjusting the valves. It's amazing how 3000 rpm and the wind noise of 80 mph alleviates the noise.

100 miles? I drove home from Phoenix after one blew up there. As long as I was going over 55 it was okay.
I lost another one on in No.Cal while on my way to Canada. I drove up to Port Orchard WA to use my BIL's garage to change it.

For valve train noise it's hard to beat a 30-30 Duntov cam in a small-block Chevy. You can hear those coming a couple blocks away.
