Is anyone going to the “BMW Festival – The Next 100 Years” being held on the Olympic grounds in Munich this September? I have to be in Frankfurt that following week so I signed up.
Unfortunately, the only vehicle I will have is going to be whatever Sixt decides to give me.
Looks like a great time and I'm looking forward to making some new E9 friends.

Jon

Not too much information listed for the event yet. Here is what I have.

BMW 100th Anniversary Celebration In Munich, September 9-11
We are all looking forward to BMW's 100th anniversary next year. On the occasion of this major anniversary there will be a great celebration for all BMW Clubs, embedded in a major event for the general public at the Olympic Park in Munich.

It's very important to BMW that all BMW clubs, no matter where they are located, are given the opportunity to participate in this unique celebration. However, BMW is also aware that not every Club or chapter may be able to participate in this event due to the distance and associated travel costs.

As a first step, the International BMW Club Office would like to identify clubs and chapters who are definitely interested in taking part in the 100-year celebration. Therefore, they have asked us to inform all chapters of the upcoming celebration in Munich.

The International BMW Club Office has developed a registration procedure to allow direct feedback from all interested clubs and chapters.

Event Overview

  • Date: September 9-11, 2016
  • Location: Olympic Park in Munich, Germany
  • Display area for up to 1,000 Club vehicles (motorcycles and cars)
  • Participants from distant countries can participate without a vehicle
  • All participating clubs—no matter whether they participate with a vehicle or not—will be given the opportunity to have a presence
  • Opportunity to exchange experiences between BMW Club members from all over the world
  • On stage experts and eyewitnesses will discuss 100 years of BMW history
  • Catering for the participants
  • A road book for a ride to the foothills of the Alps will be provided
  • The new BMW Classic facility can be toured by participants
  • Travel and accommodation at your own expense
All clubs intending to become part of the club event must register by December 15, 2015

Register for the event >>

The International BMW Club Office would like to know what vehicles interested chapters would like to display and how many. They will follow up in early 2016 to gather detailed information on each vehicle.

Hello
I will attend the event with my 3.0 CSA

The german E9 Club with more than 30 Cars will be there

And about 1000 other BMW oldtimers

Ulrich

I hope DQ will be there. A full thesis will be available soon after, documenting how to correctly organize a 100th anniversary for a motor car company. Dozens of photos will illustrate the proper way, including hand drawn diagrams with some parts in English and others in Spanish. Several generations will be referring to these timeless treasures of mechanical literature as the petrolhead bible for all to follow.

It's going to be awesome.

The BMWVCCA organized a visit to the BMW celebration plus a 'Holiday Tour' of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen are for a few days prior to the official event. About 20 cars registered. We shipped the coupe to Amsterdam, picked up Thursday and just arrived to Munich today after taking the long way via the Rhine and Black Forest.

Kudos to you Luis and all of the other 19 cars participating. What an endeavor to participate at that event. Only for doing so BMW should present you guys with a nice attention. Looking forward to seeing some more pictures of your voyage.

Ulrich, all the cars aren't coupes, there are 3 or 4 rental from BMW Classic, some modern BMW rental cars and some cars people shipped in from elsewhere. There are even tow 1940's 327s from England. Only two E9, mine and one rental from BMW.

Yesterday morning we left the Hotel Soller near Munich to head south towards the alps to stay at Grainau for two nights.

So great....we know speed restricted zones on the Autobahn are more pervasive all the time. That said, your GPS indicates "no speed limit'" and it is magic. Even if you are flashed by modern hatches, it is special. I don't know where you are dropping your car for sea delivery back home, but do not miss an opportunity to drive on the Nurburgring...DO NOT!! I can not stress this experience enough.

Flaky WiFi and too many photos. Many more to be posted upon our return.

I don't know what is going on. Photos are on Google photos and I used those links to post them here just like the first few I uploaded. I'll have to figure it out later...

It was great to meet Luis and Orangener in person and lots of other BMW enthusiast. Ulrich - sorry I missed you. I believe I found your car on Friday but I never saw anyone around it.
Great event! BMW really put on a nice event for international attendees at the new Classic Center. The show was arranged by club, so cars were mixed throughout the site. SOOO many E3 and all were very nice. I think there was about 35 coupes at the event. Lots of old 328 and 503 and a couple of EMWs.
All of my pictures seem to be too large to upload. I will resize and post after the show tonight.

OK, I think I fixed the problem with the pics. Someone let me know if you can see them now.

Great meeting you as well John. Met a bunch of E3 and E9 people but I missed both Ulrich and Orangener, although I saw his car (how could anyone miss it...).

Pics look great, did you have to get a special temporary registration or plate for your car to drive it?

Hi Steve, No special plates, you can use your US plates as a tourist for a certain amount of time. I don't know the maximum but I wasn't close to hitting it being it was only two weeks. Other folks in the group had their cars tehre since May for the BMW '02 club Bavaria Tour so at least that long. Obtaining insurance can be the issue, not so much vehicle registration. Haggerty wrote a rider to my US policy to cover the car in Europe.
