BMW 2002 Question, Need Info....

I know this is an E9 forum but I also know many E9 owners either currently own or have owned 2002s and might be able to help me out. I have a pair of NOS BMW 2002 round complete tail lights and my issue is the part numbers that are on the original box just don't seem to match or exist anywhere on the internet or the RealOem site. The tail lights were produced in 1979 and have Made in West Germany on the boxes. The part numbers for the tail lights are 63 21 1 353 959 and 63 21 1 353 960. Below is a photo of one of them.

Interestingly I just bought an E3 tail light from ebay and the part number does not exist in RealOEM either though the light is a perfect match.

Have to dig through the old parts books for this number...

Listed as taillight assemblies for pre-'74 '02s (non-touring), but "special equipment European regulation" parts. What that means exactly, I'm not sure, but the lens and reflector carry different part numbers from the standard part. The top of the reverse light lens looks a little different from a standard taillight, from what I can make out in that picture.

I was told it was for a 2002 when purchased but it is possible they are not being the part numbers don't match.

have you tried asking somebody like Rob Torres at 2002haus.com ... he's one of the best people to ask.

on another note, i think Chris is the winner - i found a rear pic of a 2002 touring on ebay

The Touring lens is bigger than standard 2002, maybe that is your clue.

Yes they are 02 tail lights according to my paper Teilekatalog.
