Hi Board,

I am working on a 'centennial' badge design and wanted to float the idea here for you to see.

My hope is to get a cloisonné badge of high quality. My question would be if anyone is interested in paying up front and waiting to get these made?

You may love or hate the design, but I started with the best intentions.... (final colors can & will most likely change)

I wanted to do so, but I am not licensed to use the roundel for profit...

These will most likely cost a considerable amount to make so limiting it to coupe only was almost not feasible.

The window silhouette has been done before...the front is just like a Bavaria so that leaves the side only.

The 507 seemed like a curvy neutral choice, but I understand the objections.

In any case, I am trying to source the manufacturer which will make cloisonné without breaking the bank.

I will try to post updates if anyone is interested.

PS. Alan your car looks amazing.....Fjord blue to me, but nice and clean--good job!

+1 & I respect that fact. Thanks Andrew, I hope using the BMW is fine as I am not 100% sure ( I think is OK though).
 
Possibly you could make the border of the white background shape,
as on the rear side window on a coupe or 2002 with Hofmeister kink.
 
I did two runs of CS Register/ry badges a couple of years ago. Worked with the woman in CA who runs the Porsche 356 Registry. She had done it quite a few times. Works with a producer in China. She handled 90% of the approvals, shipping(A Big Deal but not for her with her experience) etc. Total cost to deliver a badge(with a keyfob or lapel pin or both depending on the run) IF my memory is correct was about $45. a high estimate I think. Please correct me, someone who bought one of the badges. The run was a minimum of about 75, so it could be Coupe exclusive.

Prohibitive to have it done here - if you can find someone.

Thank you for the great information, I will be sending you an email tonight or early tomorrow. I had a feeling you were the right person to talk to about this.

Also, I am open to doing a coupe only design if the quantity vs. interest works out.

There will be a strong chance adjustments & updates will be made.....

It has seemed to me that it was probably the 2002 that saved the company, back when it was nearly acquired by MB. So, perhaps a front grille of the 2002 (which is somewhat similar to the e3, e9, and really captures the 'kidney' design) would be worthwhile and certainly expand the potential customer base.

Just my thoughts.
 
This reminds me of a conversation Arde and I had some time ago. Apparently he loves the song Goodbye Yellow Brick Road; but hates Elton John or was it the other way around? Either way he still sings it in the shower.

Let BMW use their marketing budget to do their promotions and paint their whitewashed version of history with sanitized politically correct milestones. The cult is the E9coupe community, not the brand. Just the fact that their lawyers would not let you do the roundel is all I need to know.

Why doesn't Elton John like Arde? He's a pretty good comedian.
 
Guys, I am ok with funky posts, but can we get back on track? Should I keep posting here or start a new thread? I would rather not & know all intentions are playful...

So I think we can go exclusive for e9 and separate for BMW 2002....

I have put together a quick mock up, my only quip would be that the side view is flat (2 dimensional)

The flip side would be a 3D image which may or may not look better, I don't know.

The gold around the lettering should be solid space and the scaling (textured) background is unpainted & badge material (most likely bronze).

I would like to get some direction to this, but understand the design must be appealing.

Please don't take this the wrong way but they seem like amateur design badges. From the stroke on the lettering to the layout and color. The first idea was kind of cool but it doesn't grasp me; I'd recommend possibly a 3d rendering or something with more flare if you intend on selling, just my $.02 I will stay tuned though best of luck.

None taken. Good design is a fight...sometimes drag down knock out....

I liked the first badge very much, but its not too relevant to e9/e10 cars at all.

As far as design, I know some are more fancy, but a simple outline with a solid color sometimes 'reads' easier with more breadth in its message (less style).

So it depends where you are looking at it from, the lettering is custom & took some time...the stroke took 5mins just to show what a mock-up badge looks like.

I've got many more ideas (too many), just have to find the correct combination.

There is another design coming soon....
