I know, its not a coupe part, but hey, a lot of people here have multiple BMWs...

BMW Factory rebuilt ZF 4 HP 22 transmission with 26,000 miles on it recently removed from a 1987 535is. Invoice shows installation at Taylor BMW in 2011 at a cost of $5,143 when the car had 144,000 miles on it. Car now has 170,000 miles.

The transmission is an electronic controlled early E-7 version of the 4HP 22. This transmission was used in late 1980s 535s, 635s and 735s. Cars with this transmission will have a rotary dial on the shift console with three positions - S, E and 123. Ships with torque converter. $750 plus shipping.

That's a way better gearbox than the auto the E9 came with. You can use a stand alone transmission ECU from Compushift to dial in the shift points, shift pressure and torque converter lock up points. Massive improvement for those that want an auto.

Only for the electronic version of the 4hp. Needs a multi pin connector. Also need to connect to a throttle position sensor that you need to add. You can choose the shift point for every gear and how firm that shift is. You can also flip a switch and have a sport mode for higher performance with higher rpm shift points. Another switch will let you shift between gears like a Tiptronic gearbox. Very advanced. It's even better if you have a fuel injected car with modern ECU as the info sent to the Compushift is way more advanced.
