Looks like the board is filling up with bogus member entries lately, check out
the memberlist sorted in descending order. Probably done automatically
or manually just to promote their www link on the right of the page.

Hope we can scrub them and maybe tighten the registration sequence
a bit.

I delete between 30-40 spam accounts every couple days. They're auto-generated for the most part, except for the occasional porn posts to the forum. I clean them up... its my job!

I have the other forum program up and running but haven't had time to do the last bit of syncronizing of the databases. After the new site is up the span accounts will be minimal.

I also believe that any BMW enthusiast is welcome on the forum, regardless of whether they have an E9 or not.

I personally believe that our site should be open to anyone to view.
I also believe that anyone posting to the site should be restricted to members, "in good standing". But if new that is OK, until they show cause for removal.

We have been very fortunate, that as a group, there appears to be a generous amount of intelligence and consideration shown for posts and comments. Much nicer crowd than any other group I am involved with as a poster!

Some posters still haven't figured out that if you want to buy or sell, it would be VERY useful to know where they are located.

Thanks Dan for all of your hard work. Looking forward to the new changes.

I'm new to this group, but as a member of a couple of other forums can see where clarity could be introduced.
The 356 Registry requires the user name to be one's own, and location is part of the required signature.
One of the annoying things about the web is how many insist on anonimity... but on a common interest forum that seems silly.
We should have nothing to hide. Makes flaming anyone less likely, too.

Public access is a good thing until the spamalots darken the door.
From the looks of the member list, the last 30 or so all seem to have websites... of questionable content. New Guinea: mysexmovies.com?!?!
The admin guys deal with the stuff us mere users don't have to. Thanks for your daily efforts.

As to legitimate e9 owners... ownership shouldn't be required, or else it remains a small and insular group.
I'm a member of the Ferrari club but don't own my dream 330GTC (yet!)
The 356 Registry is open to non-owners, but only club members may post to the forum.
Anyway, if ownership is in question, how about posting pics of our cars that can't be easily faked?
Simple approach: a printed e9 forum card placed on the dash, snap the photo, include on the profile page.

Just a thought...

No fooling. I delete at least 3 porn posts per day. I haven't had a chance to go through the meber list.

As for restricting members, I don't think that would be very fair, since there are many people who use the forum to learn about E9s, even if they don't have them. Heck, the number of lurkers is evidence of that. Implementing a post count based system could work though, as we could limit the new posting to an introduction form for the first few posts, then open up the main board once they have a few under their belts. That is how it works on other forums I frequent, anyway. At the very least, this would restrict the spam to one area.
