I think it's time to redo my brakes. No idea when last they were done but I note: front left rotor is warped and is getting hot but measures well over minimum .750, has not been cut; front left caliper appears to be sticking on at least one piston; front pads are 90%; rear pads are pretty much at the EOL; rear rotors are at .650 which is below minimum .709 (18mm); left rear is getting a little warmer than the right rear. Rubber hoses are not cracked but look old. No leaks apparent. Braided hose from fluid reservoir to master cyl looks very old.

So questions:

1. Is it advisable to use a seal kit to rebuild sticky calipers, or is that a waste of time. WN has caliper rebuild kits, they seem to be reasonably priced.
2. Am I correct in my finding that rotor min is 18 front and back? Normally on other performance cars, rears can go thinner.
3. WN is out of rear rotors (well they only have the cross drilled type and I don't see the need for that); who is the best US source for rotors and calipers, if needed? Is there a rebuilder in the USA that knows what they are doing?
4. Are those "anti squeal" pad shims necessary? Front and back?
5. My rear hub has a little rotational play which seems to be mainly in the outer CV joint. Is this normal?
6. Rubber hoses ... how to tell when they are done?

1. I would use an expert to rebuild these. It isn’t a tough job but you want it done correctly. We have a list of service providers here:

https://e9coupe.com/forum/threads/what-are-the-top-sources-for-parts-and-service.33895/ I have used caliperhq and at $400 for all four the price can’t be beat.

4. I personally don’t think they are necessary and the price for them on eBay is ridiculous

6. The rubber hoses should have a date code on them. Ten years is plenty long so just replace regardless.

Caliper HQ has been top notch for me.
Just sent more in.
great look - no problems

Consider replacing the rubber hoses to avoid problems with stuck brakes due to internal swelling of the hoses .

For a mechanic working on my brakes, for an airliner pilot, for an Exxon Valdez skipper, I need somebody competent, trustworthy and sober...
Not all jobs are the same...some jobs have high stakes actually.

Don did my brakes after somebody messed up my brake booster pumping bleed them. Rebuilt calipers, rotors, pads, and booster made the E9 probably the best braking car I have.

Curious…… I tried to reach @sfdon but it got kicked back. I’ve got my restomod for only a couple months and am having trouble finding brake pads for the original front brakes. If I’m going to be disappointed in the brakes even with new pads…..I’m open to upgrading the whole front system with new calipers/rotors/pads/etc……. Curious what Don suggested on the cars here he has worked on?

Thanks in advance,
Drew
