just having my brake booster rebuilt and the shop tells me that the booster smelled like gas.
What could cause that? Can gas get in the booster from the vacuum line?
I also noticed that the vacuum line from the booster did not have a (one way vacuum valve on it(https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/valve-34-12-09.html
I have to find the issue before refitting this new booster and the new master cylinder..
thanks
Hervé

I think you figured it out. When you get the valve make sure you install it in the correct orientation.

hi seven
so you think the absence of the valve was the cause?
what is the correct orientation? if you have a picture that would help.. if not i probably can figure this one out..
thanks for your help

I hate to say it, but you may well be paying to have your booster rebuilt when the real problem was the lack of a check valve. Without the valve, vacuum that should be accumulating in the booster can escape. The vacuum then is not available to assist with braking.

The end you can't suck through points toward the booster.

The vacuum hose is connected to the carburetor which has gas fumes - even when not running.

The funny thing is that it was working that way for a long while apparently. When it failed and i took the system out there was some brake fluid in the booster. which would be suggesting the master was leaking from the back. You could be right I might have gotten away from just replacing the master and putting the check valve, but once you have everything out, it made sens to get everything right..
