Brake caliper assembly torque

My friend was helping bleed the brakes today and he noticed the caliper halves flexing "open" and moving radially independent to each other.

1) what should the torque be?
2) what kind of drives are these? They are not Torx (star), nor are they triple square. I suspect they are internal spline drive.

The head of those bolts have more of a square shape than Torx Plus, but I found that a TP30 (Torx Plus) bit is a suitable fit for torquing these fasteners to spec.

(Pro tip: Applying torque to the nut will give you a better shot at getting the fastener torqued (or loosened) without stripping— less friction than trying to turn the bolt in the bore.)

Note that the bolts should be replaced once removed. It's an M9x80mm bolt (Wallothnesch). You'll need 8 of them. Might as well order the nuts (Wallonthnesch) at the same time.
 
I know that you, like me, have tried to do some of this saving money by doing parts yourself. I took mine apart, bought some seals, powder coated them and then ended up sending them to caliperHQ. They look amazing and they sourced the correct seals and parts. Just a thought- Don is right on this one
 
The original bolts on the calipers are called "Ribe". They come in sizes, and Ribe No 6 is the onenfor the calupers.

They can be enormously stuck. I bought the best Ribe bit I could find (Hazet, like Snap on), and it snapped at the first bolt.
Heated the others and they came out fine, butbit also means they are trashed (heating softens the metal - i think my heated bolts won't ever again reach the torque values gives above)

If i were in the US, i'd send them out to a reputable shop.

I recall someone here saying that a set of brake calipers will just barely fit in one of the fatter USPS medium fixed rate boxes (there are two medium boxes; the fatter one is about 6" deep).
 
i got all 4 in one of the large USPS flat rate boxes. easily the most cost effective way to mail them in the US ... although that is now over 30 bucks. i remember a year or two ago it was only 24 bucks. now the medium box is 24
 
If you haven’t yet placed that order this might be a time to see if others want them to bundle the shipping…those tend to be items that many might end up getting “for eventual use”
