Brake Fluid Loose

Thanks all. Problem resolved. Ended up being a MC issues and replaced. Back on the Road.

Hi everyone and Happy New Year!

It's been a while since I last visited the forum! I have been way too busy but glad to be able to check in again...

Anyway, the coupe had been sitting in the garage for the past few months. On my last drive which was in late September I noticed that the brake pedal was getting mushy. I lifted the hood and saw that the brake fluid was very low. Quick troubleshooting revealed a leak at the slave cylinder... I immediately closed the hood as I had way too much stuff on my plate at that time. :(

I'm planning on taking care of this next weekend but have a question: what is the bleeding procedure when the clutch cylinder is involved? Is there a bleeder in the clutch release mechanism? Do I start there and then bleed the brakes? Or vice versa?

Thanks!

The two systems are independent (OK, they share a reservoir). Unless your clutch feels mushy too, I wouldn't mess with that. But if you do need to bleed the clutch, yea there's a bleed screw on the clutch slave.

Did you mean to say at the "slave cylinder" or at the "brake master cylinder"? Even if the clutch circuit lost all of its fluid, it shouldn't impact the brakes, as the reservoir outlet for the clutch is higher than the ones for the brake.

Sorry, I meant at the clutch master cylinder. When I looked behind the firewall (inside the car and behind the carpet) I saw fluid leaking as I engaged the clutch. There were also a few drops on the garage floor. So, I'm thinking a new clutch cylinder maybe needed (hence my question about bleeding the clutch circuit if I need to replace the cylinder).

I found mine is leaking where the pipe from the reservoir goes into the clutch master - it seems the seal there cannot be purchased separately - I only just rebuilt the cylinder and must have damaged the seal putting it back together - anyone else had this or got a tip to stop it leaking?

are you sure it is due to a damaged seal ?
it might be that the seal is somehow forced by the tube ?

or, more likely, it might be that the tube is not properly and completely introduced into the seal ?

BTW i found this one of the most difficult assemblies that i have made

I will have another look tonight Jesus - trouble is i put it all together and it looked perfect and the hard line goes through the routing perfectly - I did not expect a leak there but remember when putting it together that it didnt seem to be the tightest seal ever although getting the tube and seal in was very hard!
