A few years back I did the conversion from DOT diving boards to nice euro chromies. I came up with a system to mount the front bumper using the existing shock holes. Looks like this..

I fabricated and sold numerous sets to forum members as well as to "Coupeking" who has done a number of installs using my homebuilt bits as well as selling sets from their locality to others. I would love to hear some feedback as well as see some pictures of your cars if you have used my parts. Maybe my friends at LaJolla say the conversion is not worth it and I have to disagree. I am contemplating making more as demand may require. Here are the before and after pics. Keep in mind these are some old shots and quite a few changes and detailing done since.

Thanks.

How/did you do the rear also? I have a '74, and my friend, a '72 owner, is relentless trying to get me to convert using the euro bumpers from our '75 barn-find. You system looks like what I would/should do. Are you planning to make any more conversion sets? I would go to CoupeKing but I can weld and would rather do the work myself....

Bumpers

I have been called back to work and am on the road. I will have next to zero in internet access for the next two months. Hopefully one of the guys who have done the conversion using my simple technique will jump in and assist those with questions. TIA

It’s something how very few people can stand the big 74 USA bumpers and people will spend thousands to delete them. Not that I can blame them, personally they “hurt my eyes”. I made many trips over to Oyster Bay BMW last year when I was going thru my coupe. On one trip there was an early E24 coupe sitting in a corner by itself. I parked nearby and looked over that E24 for a few moments. I couldn’t help thinking to myself that the big aluminum bumpers on the E24 make it look far more dated than our E9 coupes with the early bumpers. ~ John Buchtenkirch

I have as set of Allen's conversion mounts for early bumper installation onto a 74 USA model. I'm very happy with them. The detail it took to design and fabricate them must have taken some bit of time. It is rather simple but Im sure it took several attempts because they work perfectly and were installed very easily. The look is right on. You can only tell the mounts are different when you take a up close look. They look as factory as you can get without doing a lot of work. I'm very happy with mine.

OK, I'm in with the conversion. Installed the rear bumper on my '74 this weekend and it sure does look nice (even though it will need re-chroming at some point.) I was surprised to discover the "templates (?)" for the four rear bolt holes (not used for the American bumpers) when I removed the trunk floors...made it easy to drill/locate the holes. Had to drill a hole for each bumper wrap-around, though.
Expect to get the front done this week using "Pamp Style" mounts I'm making myself (thanks Pamp!)

I am getting around to replacing my 74 bumpers with chrome and my body shop is looking for the instructions. Any chance someone has a link that would be helpful?

I tried contacting Pamp a month or so ago re: his mounts but never heard back. Does anyone know if he's still producing them? Thanks.
