center grill

My bavaria is a 72 3100610 vin, which i believe is an early build for the 3.0 bavaria. The center grill in the car appears to be large for the car. Were there different grill sizes depending on year and model of the e3 body. I owned a 72 years back and if i remember correctly the grill was more narrow than the one on this car.

I don't believe the SIZE of the E3 grill ever changed. I believe the 73 and earlier cars had 5 polished aluminum slats and the 74 and later cars had 4 black slats.

BTW, my 3.0 Bav is 3100645 and was built on 7/19/71. So yours is certainly an early one.

Thanks for the info, I'll count the slats to determine which grill is in it. I used a vin decoder available on this forum but could only determine the car was built early but couldnt nail down a birthday. thanks again

a 72 would have had the 5 slat all silver grille, just like the coupe ... and the exact same grille

@bavagain , if you could post a pic, we can likely confirm if your grille is matching the oem condition or perhaps a wrong one for your e3.

whilst they all fit into our noses, you can see the distinct nuances in shapes side by side

confirmed it is the 5 slat grill. The po painted it white for some reason and it just appears to be too large for the front of the car, optical illusion!
