I know it is painted the color of the car, but exactly where does it start, at the level of the top of the bumper, middle, bottom? My guy did not note the level before stripping.

It starts near bumper center and then dips

Here's mine, line cuts the middle of the bumper and goes straight back. Are e3's different?

its probably the same point - aren't the '73 bumpers are held off of the fenders more. i mean further from the wheel opening

Front fenders..... I think the later pressings didn't have the step as seen on HBChris’s car and on the fenders in the attached pics. The later ones were a straight line. I’m speculating.
The rear fenders have a very clear line below which the stone chip is to be applied.
As Scott correctly observes, some bumpers are further behind than the European cars‘ position like that of Steve’s car

Good point, probably so, I can't see behind my bumper because the plastic spacer is against the body at that point.

I think you may be right Scott, mine is 73 obviously, so the step may be hidden on earlier coupes. Can’t explain the rear per Keshav’s photos.

Chris, I think your rear and front bumper is an inch or two outwards compared to the ones from Steve which has the full Euro look, surely due to the spacers
the rear panels are all the same and have the same indents

Here’s a pic of a chrome bumper which is further outwards than a Euro bumper would be

Yes they are, the US 73 has a 2 1/2 mph bumper.

That explains the positioning...... must add (my 2 cents) that the snug Euro fit looks neater.

On my E3, the guard in front is 3.75 inches from the top of the vented cowl/fearing or whatever you call it. Back is 1/4 inch below the lower fender line.

What about the back?

Thanks Keshav, I did not know the stone chip followed that line.
I do have pics of a NOS frontal quarter panel at hand (grey colour) + a used panel (red) , so let me share some more details of the 'line'.

The front fender has a horizontal line with a kink. The short section from the wheel arch to the front is at the level from the middle of the hole for the bumper attachment. After the curve, if follows the same line and ends in the curved recess that locates the bumper. IN the last pic witht he red panel you can better make out where th eline disappeares into the bumper recess.

@ Keshav, can you educate me? I see that your front panels do not have the hole for the bumper mount, but my panels do. What the reason of the difference? Date of pressing?

Hi Erik,
The Standard front wings do have the bumper hole in them as seen on your fender. The set which I posted without the holes are thin gauge fenders for CSL’s. For those who install those fenders in city pack Csl’s need to drill the bumper holes. Pic of standard fender with pre drilled bumper hole, just like yours.

the lines on the e9 as originally designed (w/o 2.5 mph bumpers seems to have the exposed line of the material to be centered on the bumper / end mounting hole. since the USA models were the only ones affected it is doubtful they changed the finishing practices.
