Maximillian just sent out an email about the trunk emblems.

They also have the plastic radiator expansion tank for sale.

"Chrome-plated metal emblems for BMW E9 3.0 CS and 2800CS models with round tail lights. This is a high-quality reproduction made in Germany."

The above was in their email.

This is good timing! My car came de-badged and I would like to add a badge to the trunk.

My main questions are: should I put 2800CS since that is the original model, or 3.0CS since it now has a M30B30 engine swapped in? I guess that’s more of a matter of personal preference.
Also, the original mounting holes have been filled and painted, so I’m wondering should I drill new ones for the install, or grind the tabs off the badge and attach with adhesive? Or go with a plastic emblem from eBay, which (I know) is not the same exact font but is cheaper and lighter and therefore less likely to fall off if stuck in with adhesive?

Your question is kind of moot as "2800" badges are only available if you can find them used; I don't believe that repros are offered by anyone.

The "C" and "S" badges on my coupe came without pins, so I stuck them on with double-sided tape. They have held well. The mass of a pot metal badge isn't that different from a plastic one; both are pretty light.

not the same look or quality. IMHO, i would buy the CS from max. finding the 2800 might be more difficult, but you should check on some of the German sites listed in the FAQ - top sources

There are a couple on eBay. One has scratches, the other has a blurry picture. But the price is good.

And if I remember, the 3.0 CS has the CS attached as one piece, but the 2800 has C and S separate right? So the CS set from max would be correct to pair with one of these 2800s?

But will they fit my car, since I don't have the round taillights?

I remember getting a spare 2800 and C and S emblem set not long after I got my car. I think I got mine from Jaymic (in the UK) about 15 years ago. I had the ones on my car - but I remembered not being able to get the 2002 emblem for my 02 for nearly the entire time I had it, so... when I saw they had old stock ones for the Coupe - I jumped on it. Those emblems are on the car now. Similar to when BMW reissued the trunk tool kit housing. Mine was falling apart and I was on the lookout for a new one. When the new ones became available (for about $300 if I recall) - I got one of those as well. That part is also on the car now (but not with any tools).

be careful as i remember, the e3 2800 is different than the e9 2800
e3 - 51141803550
e9 - 51141810563

Oooh that’s tricky. Do you know the difference? The script looks basically the same. I wonder if it’s the angle that it sits away from the sloping trunk? The E9 looks like maybe the top part of the numbers is thicker, so it still sits more “vertical” on the sloping trunk lid?

Or could it be just the mounting posts are different? If so, that wouldn’t matter since I may grind the posts off and use 3m sticky tape

Yeah all of the eBay ones say E3. So unfortunately I don’t see a way to get a 100% correct set right now.

I could go with the 2800 from the E3 paired with the separate C and S from Maximilian

Or I could go with the 3.0 from Maximilian but still don’t have a source for the connected CS badge.

I wonder if Maximilian plans to do reproductions of any of those in the future? Either the correct E9 2800 or the connected CS to pair with the 3.0? It’s kind of weird that they are offering half of both sets but no complete set for either car.

i have a brand new set for my car - that i bought years ago out of Europe, thank you @deQuincey
i will take a picture and post them. i wonder if it could be 3d printed and chromed.

i have the C + S also, just didn't take a pic of them

Thanks. Honestly they look so similar to the E3 ones that I’d be willing to use an E3 2800 badge as long as I knew it would sit roughly flush against the trunk lid. Do you know if anybody has tried this?
