Hello I am stuck trying to engage my car into gear. I believe it is clutch master or slave failing.
I have some fluid leaking above the pedal cluster onto the carpet.
I don't see any possible slave fluid leaking under the car at the trans.
I can engage the car in gear with engine OFF
but when I run the car I cannot get the car in gear when pushing in clutch pedal..
I topped off fluid but not sure its getting into the system. Pedal also feels good .
Finally- are either still available or do I have to rebuild my units?
FYI my car, a 1970 2800CS has a 5 speed from an early E12 and so guess that is the Getrag 265?
Thanks.

The slave for the 5 speed is available. The master will need to be rebuilt or replaced with a later version, I believe e12? The fluid output fitting location changes so you will also need a new feed line or extension.

Mesa performance in Southern California was a source for the line expansion, I believe that Carl Nelson may have replacement lines.

If you do a search you can find articles with greater detail.

Based on your description, it sounds like the master seals have failed. I would try a rebuild if kits are still available.

Check to see if you have an original style clutch master or a e21/e12 style installed. The original e3/e9 master is pretty much NLA. The e12/e21 version is readily available but I believe the connection pipe from the fluid reservoir needs to be change to accommodate the angle of the later style masters.

Rebuild kits for original style clutch master are available.

They’re easy to rebuild.
Good Luck.

I’m in Canada and, as we all are, searching for parts.
I found a couple of verified European reliable sites :

There are alternate cylinders on the page at ak24.
Not prescribing this exact version, but legitimate sites to try part numbers and check out the alternates.

YMMV

I agree with Lance. If you have fluid in the passenger compartment, it likely is getting past the seals in the master cylinder and this would mean the seals have failed. You won't build proper pressure in the slave cylinder if the seals in the master are shot.
