Originally from an '80 635CSi Euro model. It ran great up until the day we pulled it out of the car. The car was rusty otherwise it would probably still be on the road with this engine in it. Exact mileage is unknown so it would be wise to go through and freshen things up before putting it back in a car. The M90 can be identified by the raised coolant passage on the exhaust side of the block. This is the real deal 93.355mm bore x 84mm stroke bottom end. It's the perfect upgrade for an E9 coupe or a nice correct spare for an E12 M535i. I'm asking $1000 for the engine as pictured with distributor, harness, starter, B35 oil filter housing, ignition boxes. No ECU. I can strap this engine to a pallet and ship it just about anywhere but we will have to quote freight first. Generally it's around $300 within the continental US. It can be picked up north of Denver, Colorado.

These photos are a few years old now but the engine has been sitting in the corner of my shop since then.

I bought it In september.
Good luck with your search!

I took one of these engine from a 635 csi in the summer, it is in Upstate New York, Ithaca.
If anyone is interested I will put you in touch with the owner.
Ithaca is very near Watkins Glen if you want to make a great trip out of collecting it.

You would help yourself if you included a picture that is more than 48 kb

This is what we see when we look at your picture

the excellent Don
he is following me privately in this curious research of mine.

I would just like some help to understand
where and how the typical M90 water passage is made
they say it is longer and protruding than the 3430 engine
.
does anyone have a picture of this particular one?
my block printed 3.5 on the driver's side left, but no letter L

I apologize and I'm sorry if I can't take better pictures.

my engine has a water pipe about 30 centimeters long
I can't photograph the number vin #
now it is under my car and it would be difficult to disassemble again ...
I thought I had a first series 3500 engine with banana aspiration
my ignorance made me discover late that there are two types of 3500 engines

m90 3453cc
other type 3430cc

i hope to have an m90
Thanks for your

There are TWO different M90 engines
different block
different pistons
Don
I am lost and very confused !!!

which M90 engine model is famous for being very strong at low rpm?
the one with the big L
painted white?
or?

Don
would you have photos depicting the external aesthetic differences between the 2 M90 engine models?

therefore 3453cc!

I hope my google translator helps me to make myself understood

I still chase the post.
maybe my engine was from a 735i e23 first series

i thought it was 635csi

but they told me that the e24 with m90 engine also had an extra oil cooler.

however some images of m90 engines in the various differences would help me a lot.
it's not just curiosity, but I have to solve a problem on components such as wiring / relays and control units

For 30 dollars buy a borescope and take a picture of the pistons.
it’s up to you to take a decent picture of drivers side of the block and post it here.
it should say 3.5

hello and thanks for your assistance
especially Don.
I made sure I have an M90 engine from a 1979 bmw E23 735i.

another doubt

I compared the pictures with my M90

with another M90 engine still running under an early 635csi series ...

maybe it's an optical effect, but it seems to me that my engine is missing a valve,
the one with 2 sensors right next to the printed number 3.5
strange thing for me ....

can you tell me what it is?

I got that wiring harness under my M90 from a 1979 bmw 728i ....

could it be that the 728i didn't have that sensor ??? and that the 735i foresaw it ???

my even powerful engine doesn't run well

it has all of the 735i first series
(mass air flow meter
control unit)
only the threads are from 728

when it starts it runs well
then it tends to go out and engulf
I changed all the water temperature sensors on the thermostat
but nothing happened

only if I remove the water temperature sensor it runs well and with all its horses, then it tends not to breathe well and then after 30 seconds it recovers ....
the machine I can only get out in this mode
then sensor disconnected.
Thanks for your help
