Working on some design iterations for my E9/m5 build. Looking at flares and wheel arches. Where any cars built with flatter arches in the rear and round in the front like these pics?

Can't answer your question, but I like the renderings. Did you do them yourself?

No..found them online and. I figured they must have been from some video game but helps me work through some of the design elements for my project renderings.

BTW, I know that the roadster shop does a lot of custom sheet metal. However, these look like the fiberglass bubble flares that maxfish just bought from E911 and will be reselling.

Thanks...max reached out to me. I want to do all metal and make them fit a little different otherwise that would have been a great option and a lot cheaper!

Well you can always buy them to use as templates for the metal work then sell later.

Good thought but they will need to be fabricated to fit after we build the new chassis so no way around a custom approach. The guys at the Roadster Shop are doing such an amazing job with my 65 mustang I really wanted another project to do with them. I always loved the E9's so the concept was to build a hot rod but to a very high standard other than just putting a big engine in an existing shell. Looking forward ton this project since I like the project aspect probably more than driving the cars.

First 3/4 of my e9/ s85 build

Here is the first 3/4 view of my conceptual rendering for my 2800cs/ M5 build.
I expect that my hellcat ram air type of headlights will be functional using the twins S 85 air boxes.

That looks really 'cool'.

Thanks..still playing with the design. Also considering more of a boxy flare like a scaled down version of the grupe 5 flare and the e30 m3 flare. Trying to keep it minimal since I don't want to lose the classic lines of the car. Also want to see if the more organic flares that are in this rendering work better with the lines of the car as opposed to a more liner boxy flares. A lot cheaper to get it figured out on the computer than with sheet metal in the shop.

IMHO, The smooth look of your design does more to retain the coupe character without going full Batmobile.

when I finish up the rear I will have a version rendered with a more boxy flare and then get opinions of which one people think looks better and more in character with the car.
Thanks for all the comments !!

I think the initial design looks good. I like the 'angel eyes' headlights. Your idea e30 style flares sounds intriguing. Which M5 engine are you going to use: 6, 8, or 10 cyl? Subscribed!

I bought a salvaged title 2008 m5 (s 85) side impact for the drive train. The ram air headlights will work with the two air boxes on the s 85 so they will actually be functional and not just for looks. working on the second rendering with the box flares then I will see what everyone thinks looks better.

V10, that's going to be insane! A few more thoughts on the design...the color of the car and the wheels didn't work well for me. They kind of clash. Black centered wheels seem modern and the paint seems like a 50's art deco color. A paint color more stealth would work better with this design theme. The old trapezoid mirror also seems out of place on a car that has such modern elements. Finally, don't lose the side grills. They are an iconic part of the coupe's style; without it, coupes start to look like bavarias or 2002s (no offense to those beautiful designs). Just my two cents. I think you are on the road to building a stunner.

Thanks Walter
Car color is Turkis a stock color. Wheel centers are most likely going to be dark graphite not black. Those are forgeline wheels but they have another version that resembles a modern alpina wheel that I will play with. Working on the side vents but depending on how the flares come out I will see what works. I don't really like the stock ones since they are not functional but working on some ideas for ones that have a purpose. I will keep the mirrors since they are period correct. Concept here is not to build a modern e9...think BMW just did that but rather reimagine some elements of the car to accommodate modern underpinnings.

Box or alpina ?

Which do you like better?
