So I made the mistake (and I knew it was when I ordered) of ordering some parts for the Green Meanie on Amazon....a distributor cap, points, and rotor. The distributor was wrong altogether and I don't trust the other two either now. Lol.
Normally, I use realoem.com to find part numbers but it doesn't have the detail I need for those items. What resource do you guys recommend for making sure the parts numbers are correct before ordering short of calling the dealership?
Thanks for the input

I'm not sure how the shipping is from CA. to HI. but I think the pricing and for sure the service-meaning the correct part the first time- is pretty good at LaJolla Ind. Are you familiar with these folks? I contact Ben and I have not been sent the wrong part-ever. My 2 cents :-)

Cheers!

I'm heading over next month - let me know if I can bring some stuff for you.

Ditto about Ben. Straight shooter and knows his stuff. Good guy to share a beer with at the end of the day

I do remember seeing info about that shop while reading through threads. Thanks for taking the time to remind me of them.
SFDon, if you have the free time when you get here, I'd love to grab a beer/coffee and pick your brain for a few important things I should know/do to keep my car in good shape. I do believe I need a new window regulator. The window goes up most of the way but stalls two inches from the top and I hear a grinding like gear teeth but no movement. I can address that later.
Thanks again for the heads up on the La Jolla shop. Much appreciated, gents!

Sounds like you need a new gearbox and to clean the tracks out and regrease so it doesn't stick in that position and wear out the new one.

No, your window grinding does not require a new motor or transmission. Mine does the same thing on the pass side -has for years. What has happened is that wear of the regulator pivot results in the trans gear barely meshing with the window-raiser-upper (technical term, excuse please) at the lower 3/4 of window travel, but not enough near the top of travel.

The fix IIRC is a Mercedes heavy rivet that brand used to stock and sell. If you can't find the P/N in the archives, PM me and I will look it up for you.

If you had ever taken a regulator out of the door you'd have seen the problem quickly. It affects hand-crank window regulators too.
