Craigslist BMW Finds:

Facepalm is right! Especially for the 80's Chrysler K car looking steering wheel.
I passed on a twin turbo seven series built by a race car driver who built experimental engines for Sirkorsky Helicoptor. Deep regret. I did purchase his 73CSi with an engine he built for the track. Stripped the car including engine and 5sp. I babied it at High Performance Driver's Schools and had a rockin good time.

Looking at this tomorrow or Saturday. So few period cars show up here, it is a problem for me when they do, even with whitewashed grill and diving-board rubber. Can't wait to see what "engine has been replaced" means. Anyone recognize those wheels? I need something to play around with re metal work, bumpers, etc. before trying on coupe. Yes, I'm ignoring the asking price.

OK, pretty much what I expected, but I wasn’t brave enough to shoot him the real number. When the ad, owner’s description, the location, and the car are all telling different stories, and you’re in a very rough part of town with a language barrier, pit bulls and a pretty solid belief the real reason the car sat involved the owner’s incarceration, it’s time to thank him for showing it and find a graceful exit.

Probably a good idea..as to the wheels, I think they are 14" Fughlies. Fortunately pretty rare. Lancia, maybe, had something similar on the Beta, or am I dreaming...?

I guess CL started enforcing its fee to post for cars. Seems like over half the cars in my searches have disappeared. My aversion to FB & FB marketplace may have to soften—at least you can buy some great looking illegal food over there.

Dealers have to pay for ads but private party was free. Did they change that?

Yes, I noticed that too.

As of April 20th (or so) it's $5 for private parties. You'd think CL would have "grandfathered" in p.p. ads posted prior to April 20th, but I guess not.

Here's one article, and there are others, but no comment from CL. It should get rid of some of the spammers, scammers, and bots.

Not CL & off-topic, but here's one to watch: manual 85 E24 showing 79k w extra set of BBS rims No Reserve at June auction in Tulsa: https://www.leakecar.com/vehicle/34511/1985-BMW-635-CSI/

Here's why you'd watch: Leake is a regional OKC, Tulsa, & DFW auction (grown in recent years, likely due to being featured on Gas Monkey as the place where Rawlings dumps cars he needs to liquidate). Euro cars, except 911s & those that might draw national attention, don't typically do well. Great place to check regional market on trucks, muscle, and Am cars. It is somewhat better than it used to be due to increased exposure, online bidding, and marketing, but cars like E24s regularly fail to meet reserve and the high bids are often well below market. Can't think of why they'd sell a Tennessee car at this auction w/o reserve--maybe one of a many someone is putting up.

A buddy of mine was telling me that this is a good area of the country to look for older cars. They have a change of seasons, so the heat and a/c get used regularly, yet the climate is not as hard on cars as the more arid areas we typically prioritize.

This would be a great platform for an e28 build: https://www.leakecar.com/vehicle/34521/1985-BMW-518i/

The ragtop looks like a Ford product from that era. Take your pick.

Nearly all the low-mileage no-reserve euro cars you see in the docket are from a single source in Tennessee. They mostly appear in the same background as the e24 or on a dealer lot. If they're from a used dealership liquidation, they could be from anywhere. I called and couldn't get through to anyone with further info, but they'll likely release more information in the coming weeks.

Edit: Asked someone smarter than me to figure it out: Liquidating from Autobahn South/Arde Motorcars in Brentwood TN. https://www.autobahnsouth.com/
