Is there a trick to installing the cross brace? I have an interference.

I too had to machine the plate. Made it look like period photos, like the yellow car.
You can see where the part is smooth, the area against the seal is thinner and has a little scallop.

Well, that is unfortunate. I wish I had known this before buying this.
This should be about a 10-minute job for someone with a die grinder. Not much needs to be removed and you have proof above in the photo from Steve48 that you can make it work. Maybe reach out to local facebook BMW group? Lots of people have the tools needed for this.

Agree. Some of the large area work could be done on a bench top belt sander. Add several minutes to cool the part between passes.

Got it, yes, agree, seems that they would have had it designed to fit. This is your chance to use your artistic skills to create a perfect curve. SHow us the outcome once it's installed

Perhaps others recognize this brace but if you could list the manufacturer so others will be aware of this issue? I have toyed with adding a strut brace for a while so I would like to know if I am plug and play or "some modifications needed".
This is a very different looking strut brace to the one that came on my car, so yes, good idea to identify manufacturer
Strut is most likely from @daddywad in the UK. Many of us have that strut (I have the original version made in Germany from the 80‘s).
I personally don’t recall anyone as yet having this problem. For csl owners the rod position has to be moved though.

Both sides have the same problem. While I can recognize good artistic design doesn't mean I can do artistic work

Are there two types of the plates for the daddywad brace - different ones for CSL vs non-CSL? The position of the rods is different as far as I remember. That's why you had to drill holes if you wanted to use the Mangold strutbrace in non-CSL Coupés (at least that is what I remember).
